Q&A: 2011 MLB Predictions…?

Question by Nick: 2011 MLB Predictions…?
Since everybody else is doing it, might as well do it myself….

AL East
1. Boston Red Sox
2. Tampa Bay Rays
3. New York Yankees
4. Baltimore Orioles
5. Toronto Blue Jays

I couldn’t choose between New York and Tampa Bay for 2nd and 3rd. They could switch…

AL Central
1. Minnesota Twins
2. Chicago White Sox
3. Detroit Tigers
4. Cleveland Indians
5. Kansas City Royals

AL West
1. Texas Rangers
2. Oakland Athletics
3. Los Angeles Angels
4. Seattle Mariners

I would chosen the A’s, but it’s their lack of offense that pushed down to second.

NL East
1. Philadelphia Phillies
2. Atlanta Braves
3. Florida Marlins
4. Washington Nationals
5. New York Mets

NL Central
1. Milwaukee Brewers
2. St. Louis Cardinals
3. Cincinatti Reds
4. Chicago Cubs
i. Houston Astros
6. Pittsburgh Pirates

NL West
1. San Francisco Giants
2. Colorado Rockies
3. Los Angeles Dodgers
4. San Diego Padres
5. Arizona Diamondbacks

This division was the hardest. San Fran has the best pitching but an average offense. Colorado has some up coming stars for their offense but their pitching is average.

Playoff Teams
- American League
1. Boston Red Sox
2. Minnesota Twins
3. Texas Rangers
WC – Tampa Bay Rays or New York Yankees

- National League
1. Philadelphia Phillies
2. Milwaukee Brewers
3. San Francisco Giants
WC – Atlanta Braves or St. Louis Cardinals

You guys can predict the World Series…. Do you like it?

Best answer:

Answer by Diddler On The Roof
AL East
1. Boston Red Sox
2. New York Yankees
3. Toronto Blue Jays
4. Baltimore Orioles
5. Tampa Bay Rays

Tampa Bay’s team was STRIPPED this offseason, while Boston’s was improved.

AL Central
1. Detroit Tigers
2. Minnesota Twins
3. Chicago White Sox
4. Cleveland Indians
5. Kansas City Royals

AL West
1. Texas Rangers
2. Oakland Athletics
3. Los Angeles Angels
4. Seattle Mariners

NL East
1. Philadelphia Phillies
2. Atlanta Braves
3. Florida Marlins
4. New York Mets
5. Washington Nationals

NL Central
1. Milwaukee Brewers
2. St. Louis Cardinals
3. Cincinatti Reds
4. Chicago Cubs
5. Houston Astros
6. Pittsburgh Pirates

NL West
1. Colorado Rockies
2. San Francisco Giants
3. Los Angeles Dodgers
4. San Diego Padres
5. Arizona Diamondbacks

Colorado has the best core if you ask me.

Playoff Teams
- American League
1. Boston Red Sox
2. Detroit Tigers
3. Texas Rangers
WC – Minnesota Twins. New York simply didn’t improve their starting pitching enough. Pettitte will retire and their top 5 has one ace, an unreliable Burnett, Mitre, Nova and possibly Chamberlain as a 5th starter.

- National League
1. Philadelphia Phillies
2. Milwaukee Brewers
3. Colorado Rockies
WC – St. Louis Cardinals, Cincinatti Reds, Atlanta Braves (can’t make up my mind)

Boston Red Sox vs Philadelphia Phillies. Phillies win.

Baseball labor deal calls for more replay

NEW YORK | Baseball’s new labor contract consists of a lot more video replay, the likelihood for a longer All-Star break and a modest, but probably welcome perk for players: the chance to get a private room rather of a roommate during spring training.

The Linked Press obtained the document that contains many alterations, numerous beginning subsequent year. Amongst them:

•Allowing teams from the very same division to meet in the playoffs prior to the league championship series.

•A ban on players getting tattoos with corporate logos.

•The possibility of players wearing microphones for the duration of games.

Players have already ratified the hundreds of pages contained in Key League Baseball’s Memorandum of Understanding. Owners are scheduled to vote Thursday.

Significant League Baseball wants to expand replay to contain fair-or-foul calls, regardless of whether a fly ball or line drive was trapped and fan interference all around the ballpark. Umpires nonetheless need to give their approval, and it is uncertain whether the additional replay will be in location by opening day.

Video evaluation began in August 2008 but only to look at prospective property runs.

The All-Star break will be expanded to 4 days, rather than the conventional three-day gap. The five-year deal says beginning in 2013 that Main League Baseball “shall have the correct to elect to switch the All-Star game from Tuesday to Wednesday and the Property Run Derby from Monday to Tuesday.” Sixty-nine of 82 All-Star games have been played on Tuesday, according to STATS LLC.

Gone, too, are the days of roommates, one thing that dates back decades, to the days players rode the rails to Florida. Now, all players on 40-man rosters are assured of single rooms for the duration of spring training. They’ve had that perk during the standard season considering that 1997.

And for players thinking about selling advertisements on their bodies, Main League Baseball has thought ahead. The agreement says “no player may possibly have any visible markings or logos tattooed on his body” as component of the uniform regulations.

“Just trying to head some thing off at the pass,” said Rob Manfred, baseball’s executive vice president for labor relations.

Also part of the deal: Any large-leaguer who desires to adjust uniform numbers without switching teams much better give eight months’ notice — by July 31 of the preceding year — unless he’s willing to acquire warehouses full of every replica jersey, jacket, T-shirt, mug and something else with a number that is anyplace in stock.

The deal also bans players and team officials from asking official scorers to reconsider decisions — clubs ought to instead send video to Main League Baseball to appeal calls — and increases punishments for slow-moving hitters and pitchers, raising pace-of-game fines up to $ ten,000 every single for the sixth violation and beyond.

OTHER NEWS
âPHILLIES GET WILLIS: Philadelphia has agreed to a one particular-year contract for about $ 1 million with lefty Dontrelle Willis, who will reportedly make about $ 1 million. Willis, 30, was the 2003 NL Rookie of the Year with Florida and finished second in Cy Young Award voting in 2005. He was 1-six with a 5.00 ERA for Cincinnati last year He’s 72-69 with a 4.17 ERA in nine seasons with 4 teams.

•ORIOLES, SCOTT Part Approaches: The Baltimore Orioles have declined to tender a contract provide to outfielder Luke Scott, who becomes a free agent following an injury-plagued season in which he played only 64 games.

BRACKMAN TO CINCY: Six-foot-ten pitching prospect Andrew Brackman has agreed to a 1-year contract with the Cincinnati Reds, the AP reported.

SCHUMAKER STAYS WITH CARDS: Second baseman Skip Schumaker has agreed to a $ 3 million, two-year deal with the St. Louis Cardinals.

RED SOX SIGN SHOPPACH: Catcher Kelly Shoppach and the Boston Red Sox have agreed to a $ 1.35 million, one-year contract that brings him back to his original team. The move is likely to end Jason Varitek’s 15-year tenure behind the plate in Boston.

Some other provisions
•A ban on players betting with illegal bookies on any sport.

•New language allowing the commissioner to discipline players for violating federal, state or nearby law or for conduct “materially detrimental or materially prejudicial to the finest interests of baseball.”

•Possible suspensions for intentionally throwing a ball or equipment at nonuniformed personnel with the intention of causing bodily harm for assaulting fans, media or umpires or for generating public statements that question the integrity of the game, the umpires, the commissioner or the commissioner’s staff.

•Players can be disciplined for violating baseball’s social-media policy, which still is becoming created.

•The deal contains a new schedule format starting in 2013, when there will be six 5-team divisions, with no far more than 20 interleague games per team.

Orioles closing in on multi-year deal with LHP Tsuyoshi Wada

The Orioles have agreed to terms with Japanese lefty starter Tsuyoshi Wada, which re-opens their pipeline to Japan, according to an sector source.

He will sign a two-year, $ 8.15 million deal with a 2014 solution worth $ 5 million, the source said.

It is the Orioles’ very first foray into the Japanese marketplace because signing Koji Uehara ahead of the 2009 season.

Wada might not finish up as the only pitcher from Japan’s Nippon Baseball League on the roster. The club is also seriously interested in Taiwanese lefty Chen Wei-Yin, who pitched for the Chunichi Dragons.

It would be unprecedented if the Orioles could land each and possibly a bit of a longshot considering multiple Main League teams have inquired about every single pitcher.

The push into the Asian market place comes on the heels of news out of Korea that South Korean submariner Chong Tae-Hyon will not be joining the Orioles and rather has signed a 4-year, $ three.1 million deal to remain in the Korean Baseball Organization. The Orioles had supplied a two-year, $ 3.1 million deal and had Chong in for a physical.

Orioles executive vice president Dan Duquette by no means confirmed that Chong passed his physical, saying only that the veteran correct-hander was weighing yet another choice in Korea.

The club’s attention, however, has turned to Japan and specifically Wada, who according to a number of web sites will turn 31 in February.

A soft-tossing strike thrower typically compared to former Oriole Jamie Moyer, Wada pitched for Japan in the 2004 and 2008 Olympics and the country’s World Baseball Classic team in 2዆ that won the inaugural title.

Listed at 5 feet 10, 170 pounds, Wada consistently throws his fastball in the mid-to-high 80s but he survives on a deceptive,Ń-quarters delivery and the capacity to throw many pitches for strikes. He also misses bats, earning him the nickname “Dr. K of Tokyo” even though in college. Throughout his career he has maintained a three-to-1 strikeout rate or better.

Last year he was 16-five with a 1.53 ERA in 184 2/three innings with the Hawks. He struck out 168 batters and walked 40. He became a totally free agent in November and did not require to be posted.

Chen, 26, also did not need to have to be posted because, as a Taiwan native, his length of contract in the NPB was negotiated when he signed. His fastball reaches in the low-to-mid 90s. He was 8-ten with a 2.68 ERA in 24 begins with the Chunichi Dragons whilst battling injuries.
